Meet Amie
“Since a young age, I’ve always had a passion for swimming. It was always the sport that I loved to compete in. I went through all of the stages in swimming lessons and enjoyed them as a child, but there wasn’t anything around like Water Babies when I was a baby or toddler. My mum always says that she would have jumped at the chance of doing Water Babies with me if she could have back then.
From our first lesson with Water Babies I was hooked…
After graduating from university I knew I wanted to teach. I taught PE and extra-curricular sports at a local primary school, and just found my niche. It was when I discovered Water Babies that everything clicked. Watching the lessons from poolside, I was astonished at what the children were capable of at such a young age and wanted to be part of it. Since then, I’ve never looked back.
I love working for Water Babies so much that I’m still enjoying it 11 years on, and I truly love what I do. As soon as I shadowed my first Water Babies classes, I knew I wanted to be a part of something that made me feel that way. I was amazed by the milestones and achievements such little one’s could reach, and I’ve never looked back. Lots of carers describe Water Babies as magic, and this is a true representation of the time we spend with our families in the pool. Now managing the Devon, Somerset and Dorset Territory and team, I feel incredibly lucky and passionate about what we do and why we do it. My teachers are the best in the industry and pour every inch of energy, dedication and enthusiasm into their lessons, something that is clearly noticed by our customers.
When I’m in the water, I smile from ear to ear continuously while teaching. It’s so rewarding being the first teacher to those teeny, tiny babies and seeing them become toddlers who can swim independently at just four years old. Building brilliant relationships with carers and watching the children grow into these fabulous little people, there’s really nothing like it. My toddlers are achieving their 5 metres, 10 metres and some 25 metres certificates at just four years old!
It’s never too late to start a swimming journey but starting at such a young age provides a skill set ready for life. Having my own family enabled me to understand the depths and importance of always keeping our little one’s safe and confident in and around water, especially living so close to the coast. Now, at 4 years old, it’s my daughter’s favourite time of the week and something she doesn’t ever want to miss.

How our lessons work
Learn essential water safety, core aquatic skills, and swimming strokes from the first lesson.
Supportive lessons
With a maximum of 10 little ones, a carer per child and one of our teachers in the pool in each lesson.
30 minutes long
Lessons take place each week, so it’s a wonderful way to bond with your baby away from the craziness of life.
Have fun!
Skills are taught through song, play and repetition, so there’s never a dull moment when you’re in the pool.
Tailored progress
Our teachers will tailor each lesson to your little one’s ability, so it’s only when they’re ready, we’re ready.
What we’ll teach you
Our program helps your little one develop essential swimming skills, confidence, and water safety from day one. We’ll teach you to teach your baby to swim.
